Collaborative for Health And Social Care Information Standards
About us
The Collaborative for Health and Social Information Standards (CHASCIS) brings together Standard Development Organisations (SDOs) and key UK stakeholders to ensure coordinated, aligned, and patient-centred development and application of health and social care information standards across the UK nations.
Background
The implementation and use of health and social care information standards in the UK can be hampered by a lack of understanding of the applicability of the various standards and the overlapping interests of the various standards bodies operating in the UK.
For users and implementors of solutions, it can be confusing to see which standards to work with, and under what circumstances. For the standards bodies themselves it can be difficult to assess how to work collaboratively and alongside other standards bodies.
While all individuals working in this standards environment are working towards similar goals, the historical boundaries between the organisations can cause friction in implementation of solutions and in the agreed approaches to the development of standards in the interests of UK patients and their data.
Internationally, the main healthcare standards organisations are working more closely together (both formally, and informally). As the underlying data space is the same for much of the work undertaken by these bodies, it is natural that there is overlap in the functional roles of the standards, and in the underlying data patterns.
In the UK, there is a need for a forum where the local arms of relevant international standards bodies can collaborate- not only with each other- but also with UK-based standards bodies. CHASCIS also provides a service to all who have an interest in standards-based data, platforms, and solutions used in health and social care.
Our Aims
- To be a forum for health and social care Standards Development Organisations (SDOs) to interact and collaborate together in their work and activities in the UK.
- To provide a forum where front-line provider organisations, professionals, and other stakeholders in health and care can interact with the SDOs who are providing real world guidance, and take on their ideas.
Activities
CHASCIS works on exemplars that address one or more of the following themes:
- Areas where there is an incomplete or unsatisfactory suite of standards available.
- Choice and not clear what choice to make.
- Different standards saying different things.
- Areas of interest to standards organisations.
- Active work in standards organisations.
- Adaptation / adoption of emerging and proven international standards.
- UK wide collaboration.
- Shout out success stories.
- Case studies, webinars and blueprints.
- Opportunities for the collaborative to support.
- Accelerators to drive adoption and development of standards.
- UK wide and international collaboration.
- Effective communication to decision makers (clinical, technical, financial, strategy, policy and commercial.)
- Shared registries of standards adoption and use (providers and/or suppliers.)
- Hackathons.
- Conformity Assessments.
Exemplar proposals need not be mutually exclusive, either in terms of the areas of health and care addressed, or the types of issues discussed.
